how a 30 year old software engineer got salary of 1.65lakh
I am 30 years young Software Engineer, staying in Mumbai with my wife. My in-hand salary is 1.65L after tax and other deductions. In addition to this I get some incentives for taking interviews as well.
Am I happy?
I can't answer this in 'Yes' or 'No'.
I started my career with TCS in Sept 2014 and my first salary credited was around 12k during the training. I was very happy and rushed to the ATM to check my bank statement. That was the first moment I felt independent, in the sense that I can now take care of my own expenses.
After my base location posting in Bangalore, I used to get 19–20k in hand. I was happy to start my career as many engineering graduates in my own friend circle were still searching for jobs. I continued working in TCS until 2019 and I got a chance to work in cities like Bangalore, Kolkata and Hyderabad. My last drawn salary in TCS was 34–35k after 4.5 years of experience but I was happy that I got to explore multiple cities as I’m fond of travelling.
I joined 2nd company in 2019 and my in hand salary was 45–46k. But I was happy that I was going to work in a city new to me i.e. Pune.
I joined 3rd company in 2021 with 140% hike and my in hand salary was now 1.05L. That was the time when most of us were working from home and Covid19 was on its peak. I was very happy that after a gap of 10 years I got to stay with my family for so long.
In 2022 I got a permanent job offer from Poland and also some good offers in India itself. I was going to get married so I chose to stay here and joined my current organization. My in hand salary is now 1.65L. I was happy this time because I got remote working option and I could stay in Mumbai so that my wife can continue her job here.
Is money or increasing salary the reason I was happy?
This I can definitely answer in one word i.e. ‘NO’
I still don’t have an iPhone or luxury watches or a car. I don’t prefer overspending on luxury rather I address the needs first. I still think twice while buying an expensive outfit for myself but I don’t give a second thought if doing such things for my parents.
Why was/am I happy?
I have a very supporting and loving family who were and are always there for me.
Despite the professional challenges, office politics etc. I made some very good friends who vouched for me whenever needed and are still in touch
I never compared myself with others. Instead I chose to learn good things from people around me, be it in technical aspects or in behavioral aspects.
I now have a very caring and loving wife who treats my family as her own. What else could I have asked for :)
Money can only increase your purchasing power and affordability, it cant buy happiness. Getting a hike, a new job offer gives you temporary happiness. Never try to find happiness in money and don’t feel low if you earn less than someone else. Work hard, invest on yourself, upskill, stay dedicated and you shall get what you seek.
